Who we are

Founded in March 2003, Blushift started as promotional company for serious electronic music aficionados and regular party goers, providing weekly email updates and guestlists to the top music events in the DC area and New York. Two years later, building on its well-established reputation and subscriber base, it evolved into a selective and concise city guide to the best and most vibrant spots and brands in the city, targeting the needs of the young community looking for establishments and items with an edge, and who typically get left behind by more conservative city/event guides.

Why we are different

Blushift is unique is that it caters to an audience of young and hip electronic music fans. Every listing on the site has been pre-screened and is entirely unbiased. Selections are based on strict criteria and no form of payment has, is or ever will be accepted to be listed. This criteria is straight-forward: hip ambiance (design details, music, crowd), quality of product, and customer service. Length of time in business is not a factor, and celebrity endorsements have no bearing on ratings. This results in a concise listing of 20-30 recommendations, which makes it easy for readers to find the best venues and events at a glance, without having to screen through hundreds of lengthy and irrelevant listings. Finally, we keep our reviews short, informative and very scannable.

We welcome advertising for featured items from venues already pre-selected, as well as brands and artists who fit the profile and cater to our target audience. We also welcome suggestions! So, if someone who is not on our list should be, send them our way.
